Sixteen boats arrived at QMSC looking forward to the penultimate event in
the Fat Face Series. The sky was overcast and the wind a very variable
Force
3. Having overcome the problems of launching down the steep sides of the
reservoir by some admirable teamwork, it was each man for himself. In the
first race, the wind managed to outwit the Race Officer (for the only
time)
by backing 30 degrees just 3 minutes before the start and this led to
something of a procession. Races 2 and 3 were good, close races with
Christopher Froehlich picking his moment to gybe to perfection �..and
falling in! At the end of the day, Martin Barrett from Craven Sailing
Club
was in the driving seat with three firsts. Sunday was a day of very light
and shifty winds and the pre-event favourite, Tim Greenwood, won Races 4
and
5 by a large margin with a great deal of place changing behind him as
everyone either won or lost ground in the shifts, gusts and lulls. Race 6
saw a newcomer to the front of the fleet, Matt Moore who had made steady
progress from 11th in Race 2 to win in Race 6 and thus qualify for the
Merit
Prize for the most improved helm.
